Automatic Tweets Hits a Snag

automatic-tweet-config So, my experiment with automatic tweets via the TweetSuite plug-in hit a bit of snag recently.

My Twitter followers aren’t huge, but enough to make it worth while.  I’ve been auto tweeting my WordPress posts over to Twitter for a while now, so it would seem that no one is too offended or put off by it.  But, that theory got tested the other day.

I currently write my posts for most of my blogs in Windows Live Writer.  It’s a great offline blogger and if it didn’t insist on sticking so much junk code, mostly in-line formatting, into my posts I would be a huge fan.  But, even with that annoyance it is still really great to be able to write my posts offline, not because I’m not connected most of the time, but because my workday isn’t 100% linear.

Recently, I wrote a post for one of my blogs and published it.  It was at that point that I realized I forgot an image, so I added it an posted it again.  Then I remembered that I have a content thief so I put in a message and some links to mess him up.  Then, I remembered that I wanted to link it to an older post, and I did that too.  All-in-all, I probably published it 5 or 6 times, which does nothing on the website.  WordPress just considers those updates.

But, for whatever reason, I send auto tweets 5 or 6 times, which means I sent a tweet with a link to my post about once every 60 to 90 seconds for 5 minutes.  I could see how that would be irritating, and some of my followers let me know it.

I apologized profusely, of course, and now I’m on the hunt for the configuration change I need.  Otherwise, I’ll probably have to find a new automatic tweets for WordPress plug-in because there is no way that it will never happen again.
