Freelance Writer Needs Coffee, Twitter Optional
This morning started off kind of slow. I woke up with a headache. It was not one of those headaches you get in a general region like the front or back of your head, but one of those headaches you get in a specific spot. It’s the kind of headache that makes you think that maybe there is a problem right there, like you are having an aneurism or something. (Nice job on aneurism, SpellCheck. – It can be spelled with an ‘i’ or a ‘y’.) From there, everything was normal, but the coffee wasn’t kicking in even though I [...]
Online Marketing Guide for Freelance Writers
Actually, this is an online marketing guide for everyone, but it should be used extensively by freelance writers as well. If you know anything about online marketing, SEO, or social networking (social marketing, to some) you know that there are tons of sites out there and even more ways to use those websites, services, and the like to market your freelance writing business online. In fact, there are so many different things that you could do that to learn about all of them would take so long that you would never have any time to actually earn money writing. On [...]
Social Networking for Freelance Writers
A professional freelance writer needs many different ways to find new clients. The idea, of course, is to keep a healthy network of connections that can send prospective clients your way and keep that writing project pipeline full. Unfortunately, that is easier said than done, which is why there are shelves of books about networking in the business section of your local bookstore. Online networking via social networking websites like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn offer easier access. However, these networks can be much less personal, and therefore, much less powerful. On the other hand, the volume achievable is much higher. [...]
Social Networking For Writers
Can Writers Benefit From Social Networking? It seems like the bandwagon only bangs the drum louder with each passing day. You MUST be fully immersed in the world of social networking, and/or social marketing, immediately or else your business will fail and you will have only your stone age understanding of computers, the Internet, the cloud, and the 21st century to blame. You don’t have a Facebook page? Oh, no! That is a slight exaggeration, but not much. Do any reading online or elsewhere and you are sure to find numerous recommendations that your business start using social networking immediately [...]
Like My Posts? I do. Facebook Button Update
Have you added the Facebook LIKE button to your website or blog yet? Multiple big name websites, respected media outlets, magazine websites, and more have added the Facebook code snippet that publishes a "Like" button on your stories or websites. I even added them here on the freelance writing blog, although I did not add them on the ArcticLlama freelance writing business website. Having like buttons all over a professional business website just didn’t seem the way to go. I also added the new LIKE button, which can also be set to display RECOMMEND instead, to some of my other [...]
Automatic Tweets Update
Another, maybe better, way to automatically tweet everytime you post an article on your blog.
Twitter Won’t Make You Rich, Famous or Drive Tons of Traffic To Your Website
The other day I got an email from another freelancer. He’s not a writer, but our respective freelancing professions have a lot in common. Recently, he started up a website with a blog. What he couldn’t quite iron out what that he has thousands of friends on Twitter but he still doesn’t get much traffic to his website. He said he must be doing something wrong because everywhere he reads about how powerful social media is, and how he should be using Twitter to drive traffic to his website. Twitter Has No Power There is a disconnect between what is [...]
Automatic Tweets Hits a Snag
So, my experiment with automatic tweets via the TweetSuite plug-in hit a bit of snag recently. My Twitter followers aren’t huge, but enough to make it worth while. I’ve been auto tweeting my WordPress posts over to Twitter for a while now, so it would seem that no one is too offended or put off by it. But, that theory got tested the other day. I currently write my posts for most of my blogs in Windows Live Writer. It’s a great offline blogger and if it didn’t insist on sticking so much junk code, mostly in-line formatting, into my [...]
Auto Tweets with Twuffer
Earlier, I mentioned experimenting with automatic Tweets coming from various blogs whenever new posts are made to the site. So far, it’s been a pretty decent success, though I’m starting to get the feeling that the same people that would have come here are the ones responding to the auto tweets. It’s just that they come sooner rather than when they think of it on their own later. Another way to automate Tweets going to Twitter is with a site called Twuffer. Twuffer isn’t technically a service that generates an automatic Twitter update, but rather one which allows you to [...]
Automatic Tweets With WordPress
Automatic tweets being sent off every time you post in your blog is a good way to make sure everyone knows that you have updated, even if they don’t subscribe to your RSS feed.
