How To Build a Social Media Campaign for Your Website – Day 1

So, I’ve got a website called Finance Gourmet. It’s a pretty great personal finance blog, if I do say so myself.

At first, I published it mainly as a way to build up some credibility and finance writing samples for my freelance financial writer business. As it turns out, there is some money to be made in having a honest financial advice website, and so it now is a bit of a side business itself.

I’ve always just used my “main” social media account, ArcticLllama, to make the occasional post about Finance Gourmet and the stories published there.

Recently, however, it occurred to me, that despite having built and run numerous social media campaigns for various clients, I’ve never bothered to do it for myself, or more specifically, for Finance Gourmet. It would not only be beneficial for my financial independence website, but also be a great sample to show when clients want work done that dovetails with their own social media campaigns.

Finance Gourmet Social Media Campaign

How to build a successful social media campaign isn’t easy, but it is a skill. The main ingredient is consistency, plus a place to send followers to, and promote content from.

Since I already have Finance Gourmet up and running, and most importantly, receiving steady traffic, I don’t need a pop. I need a presence that can build slowly and solidly over time. So, consistency it is.

The way to get started is to simply start tweeting from FinanceGourmet on Twitter again. I also have a small Facebook page presence, also under Finance Gourmet. I’m not sure if I have anything on Instagram or Snapchat, but I’ll find out in the coming day or two.

For now, it’s time to get up some tweets so that the account no longer shows up in any of those “inactive” lists out there.

For a financial account like Finance Gourmet, the tweets are pretty easy to arrange. Retweeting some market news, and a financial results, plus notices when I publish new personal finance content on Finance Gourmet will form the basics. After that, I’ll need to juice up some flashier CLICK ME type content to build up a followers list, but no sense putting the cart before the horse.
