ArcticLlama Facebook Page and Thoughts on Gig Writing Platforms

I have a Facebook Page for Arctic Llama. Usually, I just post links to stuff I wrote back here as I have found that Facebook hasn’t really been a great source of freelance writing marketing for me. I’m going to be looking into to building it up (it’s like #37 on my six-hundred item to-do soon list) soon. I’m doing so less because I think that it will be a valuable inbound market source for my freelance writing business, and more because many clients these days are looking for a combination of freelance writer, content creator, and social media manager for various projects. A bare-bones Facebook Page doesn’t make for a good sample.

For now, I’m cross posting this that I wrote this morning over on the ArcticLlama Freelance Writing Facebook Page.

Thoughts About Gig Sites as Freelance Writing Marketing

A lot of freelance writers are looking into the various freelance/gig platforms as a way to fill in for clients lost during the pandemic. Most professional freelancers I know had shunned these platforms before as full of scammers and near-zero price competition from overseas. New interest may be derived in part by the growing acceptance of “gig work” and platforms like DoorDash, Uber, Amazon Flex, Instacart, and others.

I might jump back into some of these platforms as well, both as a way to potentially connect with new clients, sort of an offsite, inbound marketing, and as a way to fill in “gaps” in my professional writing time. I used to do something similar back in the day with things like Demand Studios and Bright Hub. They paid very low rates, but also asked for very little from their articles. You could use them to fill in an hour gap here and there, or even a few hours when insomnia stalked your writer brain.
